The UAE Marketing Calendar 2027: Ramadan, Eid, DSF, Back-to-School and National Day, With Lead Times

The UAE marketing calendar for 2027: Ramadan from about 8 February, both Eids, summer slowdown, back-to-school, National Day and DSF, with lead times.

Quick Answer

The UAE marketing year in 2027 is shaped by an early Ramadan. Astronomical projections from the UAE Astronomy Centre and the International Astronomical Centre place the first day of Ramadan on Monday 8 February 2027, Eid Al Fitr on 9 or 10 March, and Eid Al Adha on 16 or 17 May, all subject to moon sighting. That compresses the first quarter: Chinese New Year falls on 6 February, Valentine’s Day lands inside the first week of the fast, and the Eid Al Fitr gifting window opens in early March. The rest of the year follows the familiar UAE rhythm: a summer slowdown from late June, back-to-school in late August and early September, the fourth-quarter run from GITEX and Dubai Fitness Challenge through White Friday, National Day on 2 and 3 December and the Dubai Shopping Festival straddling the year end. The practical rule for planners is that Ramadan creative should be briefed by November 2026 and media booked by December, because the season starts before most companies have finished their annual budgets.

Every year the same thing happens in UAE marketing departments. The annual budget is approved in January. Ramadan begins a few weeks later. The Ramadan campaign is therefore rushed, over-priced and late, because it was planned inside a fiscal calendar that pays no attention to the lunar one. Then summer arrives, half the audience leaves, and the money that should have been held for the fourth quarter has been spent on a June campaign nobody saw.

A calendar solves this only if it is built around the UAE’s actual commercial rhythm and read a full quarter ahead. This one covers the whole of 2027, quarter by quarter: the religious and public holidays (with their provisional status made explicit), the retail and event moments that move spend, the global dates that matter to the UAE’s diverse population, and, for each, how far in advance creative should be briefed and media booked. Where a date has not been officially confirmed, it says so. Where a statistic is old, it is dated. Everything is sourced at the end.

Why UAE Planning Runs on a Different Calendar

Three features make the UAE’s commercial year unlike a Western one. The Islamic calendar is lunar, so Ramadan, both Eids and the Islamic New Year move about ten to twelve days earlier each Gregorian year; a campaign template that worked in March will be wrong for February. The population is extraordinarily diverse, so Diwali, Onam, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Western retail dates all matter to real segments of the market, alongside the Islamic and national moments. And the climate imposes a summer slowdown that no marketing plan can wish away: from late June to late August a substantial share of the resident population travels, footfall falls, and campaigns that ignore this spend money into empty malls.

Add to that the region’s own event economy (Dubai Shopping Festival, GITEX, the Dubai Airshow in odd years, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) and the pattern for 2027 is clear: the year front-loads into a compressed first quarter, thins in summer, and rebuilds through a crowded fourth quarter into a shopping festival that finishes in January 2028.

Dates for Diwali and Onam in 2027, which matter to the UAE’s Indian communities, should be confirmed against the relevant calendars when planning Q3 and Q4 campaigns; we have left them out of the table rather than risk stating them wrongly. The official UAE Cabinet list of 2027 public holidays had not been published at the time of writing; it is usually issued late in the preceding year and will settle the Islamic dates.

Q1: Ramadan (From About 8 February) and Eid Al Fitr

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February, roughly ten days earlier than in 2026, when it began on 18 February. If the month runs its full 30 days, Eid Al Fitr falls on 10 March with a public holiday running 9 to 12 March; if 29, Eid is on 9 March. This is a projection until the moon-sighting committee confirms it, and campaign timing should keep a one-day buffer either side.

The commercial effect of an early Ramadan is compression. Chinese New Year on 6 February gives brands with East Asian audiences a moment two days before the fast begins. Valentine’s Day on 14 February falls inside Ramadan’s first week; brands that normally run romantic promotions need to decide whether to run them quietly, reframe them around family and gifting, or skip them, and the decision should be made in advance rather than on the day. The Eid Al Fitr window then opens in early March with gifting, fashion, dining out and travel spend, followed by Mother’s Day on 21 March, which the UAE observes on the Arab world’s date.

What Ramadan does to behaviour is well documented. Research reported by YouGov found that consumers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia use media platforms about 30 per cent more during Ramadan. Adjust’s analysis of Ramadan 2024 found shopping-app installs across the Middle East, Turkey and Africa up 28 per cent during the month, with the UAE up 126 per cent. Activity shifts late: post-iftar and late-night usage surges, with searches rising sharply between 9pm and midnight, and Snapchat reported that in Ramadan 2020 users in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait opened the app 41 times a day and spent 77 minutes a day on it, a fifth more than the year before. RedSeer estimated MENA online consumer spending during Ramadan 2022 at USD 6.2 billion, up 39 per cent year on year.

Costs rise with attention. Ipsos research from 2017 found that TV advertising costs in the region rose about two and a half times during Ramadan, with ad breaks increasing by up to 50 per cent; that figure is nearly a decade old but the pattern persists. Digital advertising activity in the UAE has been reported to rise by as much as 35 per cent during the month. We have not repeated the precise CPM inflation percentages that circulate in agency blogs, because none we found was backed by a published dataset; the defensible statement is that inventory is more expensive and more contested, and that the last ten nights concentrate both giving and spending. Our upcoming Ramadan 2027 marketing strategy goes into timing windows and creative tone in detail.

Lead times: brief Ramadan creative by early November 2026; contract influencers and book premium media by December, because agencies advise securing inventory two to three months ahead of Ramadan to avoid price spikes; final assets ready by mid-January; Eid creative built as a separate campaign with a flexible launch date.

Q2: Eid Al Adha, Summer Exodus and the June Slowdown

Eid Al Adha is projected for 16 or 17 May 2027, with Arafah Day the day before, giving a three-day public holiday plus Arafah. Commercially it behaves differently from Eid Al Fitr: less about new clothes and gifts, more about travel, hospitality, staycations and large family gatherings, with sacrificial-meat and food-distribution charities active in the weeks before. Hotels, airlines, F&B and experiences see the peak; fashion less so. Our upcoming guide to the two Eids treats them as separate commercial moments for this reason.

The Islamic New Year follows in June (exact date to be confirmed). From late June, the summer slowdown begins as families travel for the school holidays and temperatures rise; Dubai Summer Surprises typically runs through the period to keep retail moving with promotions. Brands with a resident consumer base should expect lower footfall and lower engagement and should either hold budget for September or shift it to audiences that stay (tourists from the wider region, and residents who do not travel). B2B marketing slows for a different reason: decision-makers are away, and procurement cycles pause.

Lead times: Eid Al Adha campaigns briefed by early April; summer promotions briefed by May; and, critically, the Q4 plan drafted in June while the team has time, because September arrives faster than anyone expects.

Q3: Back-to-School and the September Restart

Schools in the UAE typically reopen in late August or the first days of September; confirm the exact 2027–28 dates against the KHDA and Ministry of Education academic calendars once published. Back-to-school is a genuine retail and services moment (uniforms, stationery, electronics, tuition, activities, family F&B offers) and it marks the return of the resident audience. The Prophet’s Birthday, expected in August, is a public holiday.

September is the month in which the UAE’s marketing year effectively restarts: audiences return, B2B pipelines reopen, and the fourth quarter’s campaigns must already be in production. It is also the month to finalise next year’s calendar; the UAE Astronomy Centre’s projections for the following year’s Islamic dates are usually published by then, which is why this article is scheduled for annual republication each September.

Lead times: back-to-school creative briefed by June; Q4 campaigns fully briefed by early September; OOH and event inventory for November booked before the end of September.

Q4: National Day, White Friday, DSF and Year-End Budgets

The fourth quarter is the most crowded period of the UAE year. Dubai Fitness Challenge typically runs across October and November. GITEX Global 2027 is expected in the fourth quarter (the 2026 edition is confirmed for 7 to 11 December 2026; 2027 dates had not been announced at the time of writing). The Dubai Airshow returns in its odd-year cycle in November 2027. Singles’ Day on 11 November and White Friday in late November anchor e-commerce. National Day, Eid Al Etihad, falls on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 December 2027, creating a four-day weekend. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix typically closes the F1 season in late November or early December. And the Dubai Shopping Festival opens in December and runs into January; the 2025–26 edition ran 5 December 2025 to 11 January 2026, 38 days, and the 2026–27 and 2027–28 dates will be announced by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism.

Two things happen to budgets in this quarter. Companies with calendar-year budgets spend what remains, which inflates demand for inventory. And companies planning the next year set budgets in October and November, which is why a Ramadan campaign for February 2028 must already be in the plan by then. National Day is a moment where brands frequently get the tone wrong; our upcoming guide covers the rules on national symbols and when to stay quiet. DSF, meanwhile, is a noise problem: December inboxes, feeds and screens are saturated, and owned channels such as WhatsApp and email usually outperform paid reach.

Lead times: National Day creative briefed by early October (Arabic copy reviewed by a native speaker, national-symbol rules checked); White Friday and DSF mechanics agreed with partners by October; premium OOH for November and December booked by September.

Lead Times: When to Brief Creative and Book Media for Each Moment

Booking windows in the UAE are shorter than in some markets but tighten sharply around the moments above. A media-booking platform serving the UAE describes standard out-of-home lead times of five to ten working days, two to four weeks for premium digital landmark sites, and four to six weeks in peak seasons such as Ramadan, Eid, National Day and DSF; the major UAE media owners do not publish fixed windows, so treat those as planning minimums and confirm directly. For creator campaigns, agencies consistently advise contracting two to three months before Ramadan, and the Advertiser Permit regime adds a verification step before signing. Arabic adaptation is not translation and needs its own time. Our upcoming guide to campaign lead times and media booking sets out a backwards-planning template.

Moon-Sighting Flexibility: Planning Around Dates That Move

Every Islamic date in this calendar can shift by a day when the crescent is or is not sighted, and Eid can be announced the evening before. Build for it rather than against it: creative for Ramadan and both Eids should be scheduled with a launch window rather than a fixed date, ad sets prepared in advance and switched on when the announcement comes, and public-holiday operating hours communicated in a template that can be updated in minutes. The same applies to the official public-holiday list, which the Cabinet typically confirms late in the preceding year and sometimes adjusts (moving a weekend holiday, for instance). Treat the projections here as the plan and the announcements as the trigger.

Planner’s rule: the projections are the plan; the official announcement is the trigger.

The table above, the lead-time schedule and a blank monthly budget-phasing sheet are available as a one-page planning calendar; we update it when the Cabinet publishes the official holiday list and when DSF dates are announced. Planning the year on it is how our research and planning work begins with most clients, and it pairs with our upcoming guide to how much a UAE small business should spend on marketing, which covers seasonal budget weighting. Frequently Asked Questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start in the UAE?

Astronomical projections from the UAE Astronomy Centre and the International Astronomical Centre place the first day of Ramadan on Monday 8 February 2027, about ten days earlier than in 2026. The date is confirmed only by the moon-sighting committee the evening before, so plan a one-day buffer.

When is Eid Al Fitr 2027 in the UAE?

Eid Al Fitr is expected on 9 or 10 March 2027, depending on whether Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. The public holiday covers Shawwal 1 to 3, with Ramadan 30 added if the month runs full, giving a break of 9 to 12 March in the 30-day case. Confirmation follows the Shawwal moon sighting.

When is the Dubai Shopping Festival 2027?

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism had not announced the 2026–27 or 2027–28 dates at the time of writing. The 2025–26 edition ran from 5 December 2025 to 11 January 2026 (38 days), and the festival typically opens in December and runs into January. Plan for that window and confirm when the dates are announced.

How far in advance should I plan a Ramadan campaign in the UAE?

Brief creative about three months ahead and book media and contract creators two to three months ahead, which for Ramadan 2027 means creative by early November 2026 and bookings by December. Peak-season OOH lead times run four to six weeks, creator contracts now require Advertiser Permit verification, and Arabic adaptation needs its own production time.

When is UAE National Day 2027?

UAE National Day, Eid Al Etihad, is on 2 and 3 December every year. In 2027 those dates fall on Thursday and Friday, creating a four-day weekend. Campaigns should respect the rules on national symbols and be briefed by early October.
